Continuous HR with chest strap? Broadcast issue

I have the fenix 5x, and also a polar h10 chest strap. My goal is to wear this chest strap at all times unless I sleep. And I want the fenix 5 to show me what the polar hr reads.

I pair it up (and turned wrist hr off on the fenix) now polar sends info to fenix only when I workout or check the hr widget (it promptly turns on) I want it on the whole time, not just when I check it.
Due to that when I'm looking at my watch face (gear mini) the hr is stuck at the last reading

Please help. I Find the h10 to be superior in accuracy over wrist hr (wrist hr is just as accurate at rest)

Please help
  • Oh no... Oh no.

This is a massive let down for me. I bought the polar h10 just so I can have accurate readings all day
The fenix does great when at rest but super unreliable when active.

Is there any workaround this? I don't understand why wrist HR is always on but polar h10 cannot be pushing data to the fenix always on.

Also, this is a screenshot of my watch in the *about section *

Am I software version 5.10? I connected to gamin express and says I'm all up to Date....

  • It's all about the battery. Having the ANT radio on all the time would really impact the watch battery, as would having the HRM transmit on all the time would do to it. The built in OHR is designed to have as minimal an impact on battery as possible.

As someone mentioned of you want an external HRM connected all the time, you can start an activity, but keep an eye on your battery level.

I'd be fine doing that, but if I start an activity the watch won't let me get to my watch face unless I pause the current activity.. I need to be able to see my watchface .. How can I do both?
  • You can't. The watch is not designed to do what you want to do.

Ok fair enough, what is the best watch/fitness/smart In the world ? Cost no object
  • No problem getting back to the watch face. Either add Clock to your activity or long press lap/back whilst recording an activity.

In daily 'passive' mode you will find the 5x wrist HR sensor is always 'on' but it does not show/update HR measurements instantly/continuously - but will update about every minute. Power saving I guess.
  • As TrippyZ says, usualy activities have one of the screens "clock", which shows time and date and which you can use as watchface or build your own screen with field "time of the day" found in section "others" and any other fields you want to see, i.e. HR fields.
This may fulfill your request. I guess you will have to charge the watch every day.
