Yes, it is possible. The watch has it's own onboard accelerometer-based distance calculation mechanism. It is not as accurate as a footpod or GPS, but should give some decent results is most cases. Just use the indoor run profile and it should work. The HRM-Tri is not needed, and won't help as a matter of fact, since it does not provide pace.
Use Treadmill activity type and use Calibrate & Save option. Available if you run for more that a kilometer. I own both Fenix 5 and footpod but never use a treadmill. Some info suggests that a footpod is not required.
You can run in a treadmill with the watch alone. In my experience, distance is 10% off (running at my steady easy pace I also run outdoors thus the pace the watch should be calibrated the best for). You will have better results with a footpod obviously
I use just the F5 and the Treadmill activity frequently when I squeeze in a treadmill workout over lunch. When I started using that combo, the difference between what the watch showed and what was on the treadmill was off by some but not much more than .05 -.08 mi for a quick 2 mile run. I typically used the Save & Calibrate option after each run. Now, the distances are usually within 0.00 - 0.03 mi for the 2 miles. I realize that the treadmill distance may not be accurate. We have 5 in the gym and I try and use several different ones but it seems like I get the same correspondence between the watch and the various treadmills.
ok thanks everyone for your help , I'm going to try it again today and see what happens ..... will report back. I take it to calibrate you enter the distance that the treadmill says ??
You can also set your running and walking stride lengths in your user settings so it gives a more accurate result but the problem is that it is only useful if you do steady pace running at similar speeds, if you do HIIT then you pace varies so much that your stride length does too so distance based on a set length is inaccurate, as much as 10% sometimes.
So I just use the calibrate function after the run, takes two seconds.
Where's the setting for running? The only one I have found is the one for stride length for activity tracking, which isn't used for running AFAIK; the WDR running is calibrated over a range of paces while you're running outside with GPS.
Thank you all for your help , I was not wearing my watch while running on the treadmill hence it was not measuring the distance . All sorted out and calibrated now , thanks again ...
