Course Navigation Issues on 11.00

I have been experiencing some problems navigating using courses on 5X. I find that when navigating the watch has a hard time starting navigation from any point along the course and gives the distance to the beginning of the course. In some cases it eventually realizes I am on the course and begins navigation. Yesterday while navigating a course on a mountain I stopped for lunch and used the "resume later" option. When I started the app to continue the course the GPS would only state the distance to the beginning of the course even though as I continued my hike it would highlight the active course in magenta and show my position along it. I had to continue the rest of my hike without any useful navigation information and merely following my position graphically along the course.

I did not have this issue in the earlier firmware versions either starting a course mid way or resuming after a stop. Has anyone else come across this? Anything I can do to address this? Basically for now I am afraid to stop the app when taking a break as the navigation does not resume properly upon re-start of the app.
  • Was it a loop?
If yes, the beginning point is equal the end.
I don't know about "resuming later" but in my case, fw 11.0.0.0 does loose the course points warning cue sheet (navigation step by step "TBT") if you get off course for some time showing the distance only to "end point".
  • I did test this today and it is working fine for me (v11.00 and gps2.30).
This was a problem some time ago (maybe beginning of this year) with an earlier version and I think also regarding how the route was created.

Today I first loaded this route created here https://www.plotaroute.com/map/609184. Downloaded it from the site to my mobile and transferred it to my watch with gimporter ConnectIQ-app.
I started to run w/o course and after 200 m I started navigating a course. I got the on-course message at once.
After some 18 min I ran off-course for 8 min. Got on-course directly when entering the route again.
I didn't have any problem with my course points (tbt) after that.

When we had the problems last time I created a test route that passing my home and I can test from (inside) my house. https://www.plotaroute.com/map/588322
I loaded that one in the same way to my watch and put the watch in my window.
Started the running app with navigating a course.
It shows the correct distance left and also the correct 'next waypoint' that I've created.

Swedish/international char (åäöÅÄÖ) is now working. Not seen that before. Great!!!
  • I guess 200m is not enough.
In my case we got a flood blocking our course and had to detour following the blue track instead of the original purple.
Something like 2,5km till returning to original track.ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1422185.jpg

Yes, it was a loop. Although the start and end point of the course were not the same, at some point near the start they start and end approach hikes crossed one another at one point, so it was a loop. Come to think of it the last time I had this issue it was a loop also. However, I find that in general in the latest versions of the GPS firmware that if you deviate from the course and go back to it at a later point (such as the example above by marcossaad) it takes much longer than before for the GPS to recognize that you are back on the course.

    Thanks, for your response
