hello I have the Fenix 5 x 8 months . I do intense cycling 5 times a week 300 km and on 8 months the VO2 max is in the same has not changed.Is normal ?
If you have; speed, cadence and power meter in use; no.
If you are missing a power meter or speed (not 100% sure if cadence is needed, but I think it is); yes.
Then only way to get vo2 is to use "Run" -workout (treadmill5/trailrun are no good), outside, with hr on and do at least 2 separate 20min long runs. Power meter not have.On cycling ride have on all Fenix 5x sensors :speed ,HR,Distance height etc etc
You need both a power meter and heart rate to get VO2Max from cycling. As it sounds like you don't have a power meter, you won't get VO2Max updates.
Interestingly I cycled to Parkrun yesterday morning and had my Stryd footpad on my shoe and when I checked Garmin Connect last night, for the first time ever, I have a Vo2 max reading for cycling. I don't know if Garmin have changed something or whether the Stryd can be used for cycling but something has given me a Vo2 that I didn't have before. I did have my HRM-Tri chest strap on but I have done that before when cycling.
Presumably it picked up the Stryd transmitting as a "Power Meter". I doubt there is anything in the ANT+ signal that says "I am cycling power meter" versus "I am a running power meter".
it happened to me too, mcalista is right - powermeter is powermeter, no matter if cycling or running. Not sure if the VO2max for cycling calculated this way is good, because stryd claims their fp is not suitable for cycling. Would be interesting to compare stryd results with normal cycling powermeter. BTW stryd should be paired as FP rather than PW, am I right? In that case this would probably not happen.
Almost certainly the data would not be relevant for cycling. It takes 18-24 months of development for even dedicated cycling PM's to produce reliable power data in a range of use cases, and it has defeated a number of startup PM manufacturers. I very much doubt as to whether Stryd has put this development effort into cycling.
