I track my commutes on my Fenix 5x, and sometimes it doesn't get GPS lock in a timely fashion. I'll start the ride, then start riding, and the watch will start tracking once it gets a lock. Or that's how it used to work. Now, most of the time, if I don't wait for a lock before starting recording, the watch will beep on GPS lock, and immediately crash so hard it powers off. Restarting the watch, sometimes will allow me to resume the ride, sometimes not.
It might be worth following the steps below and sending the results to Garmin. It might help them identify the issue.
If you see a device crash, please do the following steps. After the device comes back up do the following: 1. Go to Menu -> Settings -> About 2. Press the Light key repeatedly until the hidden menu appears 3. Select Save RAM region. 4. Retrieve the now generated RAM.bin file in the Debug folder.
