This happens when i try to update European maps. I have the latest stable version on my Fenix 5X, (10.20) i have uninstalled - reinstalled Garmin Express, I have done all the restarts but nothing changes.

Is is supposed that the problem is fixed... https://forums.garmin.com/forum/on-the-trail/wrist-worn/fenix-5x/1342442-fenix-5x-upload-europe-map?p=1363542#post1363542
...but it is not!
  • Same problem here.. Getting error message trying to update to Western Europe 2.0 map. I have version 11.0. I tried to contact support but no solution yet, very frustrating..

So it is not an individual problem as many of us have the exact same problem...

I hope someone responsible there will try to find a solution because Garmin does not accept the problem but they advice you to do some stuff that make no difference.

Please Garmin fix it... It is not that difficult!!!
  • I have the same problem. Why Garmin do not solve the problem?
  • Also can confirm - i have same problem with map update. Since moment of purchase (3 weeks ago) get 3 SW updates on watch - from v8.20 to v10.00, v10.20 and v11.00 however problem with updating European maps still persist. Check also has been done on different computers with different OS versions - Win10 and Win7 with no luck. For my understanding - all this clearly indicates that problem is not with our watches due to fact that similar problem already has been reported previously (and fixed by Garmin) by more then one people...

We are in official Garmin forum and we do not have any official statement regarding this problem... It is disappointing...
  • I have the exact same problem with the North America maps - tried several times and get an error... Initially all maps were in need of an update. The smaller maps updated (after several tries) but the large map (US) did not update... A solution would be appreciated :)
  • I get this with the Western Europe 2.0 map. In my case I strongly suspect it's because there is not enough space left on the watch. I think I have about a gig free and the map is much bigger than that.

Also I think I already have some european maps - TopoActive Europe v3 (east and west) - already on the watch.

Who knows what's supposed to be on there, which map is more recent and what each map covers etc etc. The map management is so poor it's very difficult to know.

    (I'm in Europe fwiw)

  • I am having this issue and raised a ticket with Garmin a few weeks ago. In the initial response they said
We have seen several reports of this issue happening.
    and
I will add this information to our ongoing internal case. If there are any follow-up questions or if any solutions are found, they will get in contact with you via email.
    .

So then after I sent them my logs and watch contents I got this back
I have added the attached folders to our open case. Any update or solution will be communicated to you via email.

Basically lots of people have reported it, they seem to have no idea why it's happening and there may or may not be a solution one day, who knows. It's not massively promising.

I would urge anyone who has this to raise a support ticket since the more info they have perhaps the sooner they will be able to find and fix the problem.

I have already opened a ticket to Garmin support but from their answers I get the feeling that they have no idea about what is going on... I am very dissatisfied.
  • Garmin support in Italy told me that it is a known issue an it will be fixed in the next watch update.. But my impression was that they don't really know if there is a fix in progress..
