Sleep Tracking - REM errors

has anybody else seen an error where time in bed, but not sleeping is getting processed as REM?

For example, if I wake and hit the snooze button - that time is logged at REM sleep. Which is obviously not accurate. Heart rate data shows up as more active - which makes the measurement even more surprising.

Similar problems if I’m woken in the middle of the night and have trouble getting back to sleep.

Has nybody seen this? Is there a fix?
  • There is no fix that you could apply. And if you seriously think that an electronic device can reliably detect REM phases based only on wrist movement, and possibly heart rate, then I'd suggest you reconsider. Do not pay any attention to what your garmin tells you about your sleep. It has no value beyond recreation.
  • as tmk2 mentioned, sleep tracking is useless on the fenix and it is impossible to measure REM phases on the wrist. REM measurement is just a marketing joke from garmin.
also deep sleep measurement is useless: the fenix often shows i am in deep sleep while i am reading in the bed.

use the fenix to check the time and date - these metrics seem to be trustworthy on the fenix.

Here is a reference to review the sleep trackers. http://sleep.cs.brown.edu/comparison/. Garmin could use some well known algorithm for better sleep tracking and remove bugs in Garmin Connect. The deep, light, and rem sleep hours are random numbers after each sync in my report.

I have my fenix 5 for a few weeks. Sleep monitor works very poorly. Actually, I doesn’t work. If I’m lying down reading, it counts the time as sleeping. It never detects if i wake up during the night: even if i press the watch buttons!!
