How to re-pair my Garmin HRM with my 5X?

Yesterday I manually un-paired/deleted my Garmin HRM (HRM2-SS) from my 5X to attempt to solve a problem. I'm now trying to re-pair/add the HRM again but it just won't recognise the HRM at all. Through (adding) External Heart Rate I get 'Searching for Sensor' then after a few seconds of trying - 'Wear HR monitor to connect - Try again' (I am wearing it)

Also if I try to Add through the generic 'Search All' I get ''Searching for nearby sensors' then after a about 10secs - 'No Sensors Found - Try again'
  • Maybe the battery in the HRM sensor is dead, or the HRM sensor is simply broken?

I don't want to be pessimistic but I think you can say goodbye to your hrm. I was having the same problem with HRM-Tri and now it is useless. I am very sure that the problem with new Garmin straps, are the electrodes. So the life span for new Garmin straps is about 1year up to a maximum of 2 years. Don't buy again Garmin straps, at least the ones that you can't replace electrodes : HRM-Tri, HRM-Swim HRM-Run.

Strange - it's working one day then when I attempt to re-pair to the 5x its dead :( Electrodes look fine. New battery. Strap is brand new. Did an HRM 'reset'. Yes - I'm thinking the HRM module must have just died. My god they don't last very long !

Trust me. The electrodes are the problem. You will see that at one moment, the strap will be detected and it will work and after one use, you cannot use it again. It is something random. My electrodes are looking good also but it have the same problems as you have. I give up to buy Garmin chest straps. I know that with others I don't have running dinamycs but I don't like to pay every year 120 euro for a chest strap. I am using polar now and it is very good even without running dynamics. For those I can pay for a pod.

Late update - sorry should have posted weeks ago.

It wasn't the electrodes/terminals. It wasn't the strap. It wasn't the battery. The HRM is actually dead. This is my 2nd dead one already! The HR readings were just stupidly high readings that it would instantly lock on to - unusable and unfixable. From my experience the Garmin Premium HRM lifespan (after owning 2 now) is only ~15months from new. Very poor in my books. At AUD$90 a pop I'm already onto my 3rd - and I'm only an occasionally amateur runner! Note: Keep your receipts!
  • have you tried to make it really wet, when you are wearing it before connecting?
  • Looks you woill not need re-pair, but repair :(
