So I have been playtesting some of these navigation features and everything has been good so far except the automobile routing option. Are the prelaoded maps not routable with a car? It keeps showing a straight line from origin to destination with no regard no existing roads. If so, any suggestions on downloadable maps for US roads? I understand that the watch shouldnt be the primary navigation tool while driving but would like to have it as an option

Sorry, the maps were not designed to be used with an automotive.

Ok. I am actually also struggling to get turn by turn instead of straightline navigation even on sidewalks/roads when im walking. What am i missing

You have to select "Use Map" in the activity setting I believe. And I found the navigation guidance can be slow. Sometimes I would run pass a turn, then it will tell me I am off course.

When I choose use map for any activity other than cycling it shows a straight line to destination....

Of course you can use a 5x for car navigation. With correct navigation settings and a routable map for (car) navigation. I have purchased a Garmin CN NT Europe street map and it is (in case of using it) working fine.

The watch has the abilty built in?!
are you saying the last map update changed this so now its a redundant feature?

I always use the watches built in car sat nav function...with no problems.....
Navigate....routing .... Automobile....standard maps.
I find it extremely useful.

I just tried it....
Worked perfectly.
I had turn by turn...vibe and sound...
Standards maps....
Map page always on......

Follow course.or use map..routing.

Maybe I should restate and expand on this subject. As Volker_I. pointed out, anyone can use the fenix 5X to route on the roads with if you have the correct maps and navigation settings. The fenix 5X comes preinstalled with regional Topo maps and Cycling Maps. The Cycling Maps were designed for Cycling and not use while using while driving a car.

If you are planning on using the watch to route you while driving, it is highly suggested that you use City Navigator which is a map that has been designed to be while navigating roads.

with the european pre installed maps it works great for car navigation. i use the Track-ME app (tracker app) don't know for what it is really is. go to settings -> routing -> and choose car.
it navigates me even through tunnels, where you can't go or cycle. used it a few times to test it.
