Some basics

I apologize if this has already been covered somewhere, Ive tried searching but couldnt find much. Im very new to garmin and smartwatches in general so I just had a few questions.

1) I seem to have the APAC version of the fenix 5x and living in the US I was wondering if that has any downsides besides receiving the updates a bit later?

2) Despite having no issues with syncing, I cant seem to have any sleep data populating on the connect app. I also dont really see any heart rate records. Is this simply because Ive had it for one night or is something off with the settings?
  • Updates are later, you don't have access to the public betas, and the languages available are different, and it may be a bit different for GPS (the China system).

    If you live in the US, personally, I'd exchange the APAC for a ROW (rest of world) device.

    For advanced sleep data, that could because it's got older firmware. Have you set your sleep times configured in Garmin Connect? Not sure about HR, as you should see that of the OHR is on and working.

    Thank you. I got it from Amazon and the version was not listed when I ordered it so Im a bit at a loss as to how to find out beforehand which one I am getting. The GPS has worked well so far here.
    To be honest I wouldnt care about the languages, the beta and the updates being later - I do hike/backpack a lot so I would hate to have GPS issues. Is there anywhere I can confirm whether APAC has inferior US map coverage?
  • It's that it's got the China version of GPS (and likely the maps). Contact Amazon and tell them you got the wrong version. As I said, the advanced sleep data could because of the older APAC FW.

    I just tried syncing it through the Garmin express app for windows and everything is showing fine - including advanced sleep. I guess it was just not syncing well to the mobile app. The potential map discrepancy is worrisome though, so I will reach out to amazon see if I can get it exchanged thanks
