In case anyone else is interested, it does technically work. I used 20mm x 1.8mm quick release pins, bought off Amazon, on my Forerunner 645, together with a quick fit band intended for the Fenix 5S. The quick fit band attached to the quick release pins just fine, with the pin release mechanism just clearing the clasp of the band. (So, an ordinary 20mm x 1.8mm pin would surely work.) However, because the quick fit bands are so fat, they are not practical on this tiny watch which lacks traditional lugs. The band would only come off the watch either parallel or perpendicular (i.e., 0 or 90 degrees), making it suitable only for very large or very small wrists. But, if you have another watch and want to go back and forth between quick release and quick fit bands, it's possible.
