Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

10.55 Change Log Notes:
  • Fixed an occasional issue where the displayed lengths or distance during a pool swim could briefly show incorrect values.
  • GPS FW (2.24) should improve pace accuracy for running/walking activities and track performance for open water swimming activities.
Our public beta users are encouraged to load the new GPS firmware and use it for their next activities. If there are any activities where the GPS performance did not improve, we would like to see them. This also includes if comparing to previous activities. To send data to us for evaluation, please include the following in an email to "][email protected]:
  • FIT file(s) from Garmin\Activity folder
    • FIT files from previous activities if comparing same routes

  • GarminDevice.XML from the Garmin folder
  • Subject line of email must use the following format: ‘Fenix 5 Series - GPS 2.24 Evaluation - DATE_ForumUserID_ActivityType’ (ex. "20180823_odsweng_Walk")
Following these instructions will ensure your email and files are delivered and sorted correctly. Lastly, you will not get an email reply unless we need more information from you, but rest assured, the data sent will be evaluated.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
  • After some days of usage I can state that this is not the best beta in my experience, if I knew, I would stay with 10.52 with GPS 2.23, which seemed better for me, no elevation issue on bike and much better battery consumption. I dont want to downgrade just because of losing customization.

I've installed many betas before, but this one wont install. I am currently on 10.0. Ive copied the GUPDATE.GCD to the \GARMIN folder from both a MAC and a PC. I did a factory reset on the device, then tried again. I've even used different cables for syncing. Each time, the GUPDATE.GCD file is removed after disconnecting the watch, but no update happens. I've re-downloaded the update, even tried to install the backdate version, and still nothing. I'm out of ideas...

    Any suggestions?

UPDATE: Okay, problem solved. I downloaded the beta for the 3rd time, this time the file sizes were completely different. Dunno... works now.

Have the same problem. Size of ZIP-file is 11 816kb, I have downloaded the update file 5 times and always the same size. Size of GUPDATE.GCD is 7 791kb

    Any suggestions?

Confirm the name of the file is fenix5X_1055Beta.zip and you are downloading it from the link in the first post on this thread. I was using a saved copy of what I thought was the beta site, but it was not.

Is anyone else experiencing wiggly lines in their GPS tracks?
My tracks look like I cross the road really often, fly over buildings, stop for a few seconds and then run really fast,...
This also affects instant pace, which also jumps all over the place. I can't really rely on it because I'm running 6min/km one second and 4min/km the next.

I always run a similar route and I never experienced anything like this with my previous watch, garmin 230.

Is there a more stable firmware/gps combination? I've had de F5X for a few months and most of my runs since switching from the 230 look like.
  • Had the same problem until I realize that I had the navigation running settings set to follow road.

disable it and all went to normal... With Garmin known problems, of course

my fenix 3 always gives better and smoother tracks.

    hope it helps

    best regards

  • I have several bike powermeters. All are set to "Calibration Prompt Enabled" which makes the watch initiate a calibration when the sensor is paired.

This works on all of my Quarq powermeters, but for my SRM powermeters, it does not, there is no prompt to calibrate and I cannot find a way to calibrate them after pairing.

I do not think this is a newly introduced bug, but I have mostly been on my quarqs lately, so haven't noticed it before now.
  • I find 10.55 to be much worse for battery life compared to 10.52. Whatever change Garmin made in 10.55 if affecting battery life. I use a standard Garmin watch face and no IQ data fields.

I find the GPS performance in 10.55 is equally good to 10.52 so far.
  • 10.52 was the best one so far. 10.55 has really poor battery life and also bug in Total Ascent calculation on bike, which seemed to be fixed in 10.52.
  • Now we have one more variable...
I wonder if battery consume can be related in separate to firmware and or GPS version.
People are complaining about battery and accumulated ascent on 10.55 with whatever GPS version.
Than we have GPS 2.30 a part.

I'm happy with battery and total ascent 10.51 and GPS 2.20.
Can somebody tell what changed from 10.51 to 10.52?
