Fenix 5X: https://www8.garmin.com/support/down...s.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

10.55 Change Log Notes:
• Fixed an occasional issue where the displayed lengths or distance during a pool swim could briefly show incorrect values.
• GPS FW (2.24) should improve pace accuracy for running/walking activities and track performance for open water swimming activities.
Our public beta users are encouraged to load the new GPS firmware and use it for their next activities. If there are any activities where the GPS performance did not improve, we would like to see them. This also includes if comparing to previous activities. To send data to us for evaluation, please include the following in an email to "][email protected]:
• FIT file(s) from Garmin\Activity folder
• FIT files from previous activities if comparing same routes

• GarminDevice.XML from the Garmin folder
• Subject line of email must use the following format: ‘Fenix 5 Series - GPS 2.24 Evaluation - DATE_ForumUserID_ActivityType’ (ex. "20180823_odsweng_Walk")
Following these instructions will ensure your email and files are delivered and sorted correctly. Lastly, you will not get an email reply unless we need more information from you, but rest assured, the data sent will be evaluated.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

quote from Garmin "Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices."

So what are APAC users supposed to do? When are we likely to get updates for bug fixes?
I have been using fenix 5S Plus (outdoors, running and cycling) for 6 weeks now, and it will still not give me a training status - despite VO2 max working fine!
• I just did a mountain bike ride. It looks like the elevation gain is showing lower again with 10.55. I have been using both my 5X and 910XT at the same time to capture my rides for a while. They were fairly close with the 5X on software V10.51 (5X around 15% less). But on my first ride with 10.55 the 5X showed an elevation gain of 201 meters and the 910XT showed 289 meters after 23km. A BIG difference again!! That is almost 44% different/less!!

It is hard to say which one is actually correct but I would assume the 910XT is at least consistent since nothing is changing on it (no firmware...). The 5X is always showing significantly lower. I don't really care what the elevation gain is but I would like it to be consistent so I can compare the elevation gains when I go to new/different locations. Maybe I should have stayed with 10.51.

On the positive side it does appear that the battery life is slightly better with 10.55 than 10.51.

This is exactly my finding from my weekend ride. Elevation bug is back! What was fixed in 10.52 is gone again. Please write tobeta team with fit file and I am going to do the same.
• I bike, starting my activity from the same spot every day, for the sake of more accurate elevation and GPS readings.

According to Google Maps, my start point, 113 meter elevation. According to my watch, on 10.55, it's reading anywhere between 103 meters to 108 meters. I found this to be more or less consistent over the last few beta releases. If I recall correctly, 10.53 was reading slightly lower, like between 100 to 102 meters. Something like that.

That said, I often bike the same exact route. I rarely get two readings that are the same. I do realize that I don't bike in a straight line and I also don't bike exactly on the same crooked line each time, but still.. it's all over the map. Exact same route, 5 times over the last 2 weeks, elevation readings between 84 meters and 112 meters (correction between 5 meters and 8 meters). It's not perfect, but, meh. Whaddayagonnado?

The starting point elevation differences I don't think is connected to elevation bug. I think it is the fact the altimeter is not calibrated and there is some meters inaccuracy over some period of time. I think problem is this:elevation readings between 84 meters and 112 meters . This should not be at all so huge difference because even starting point is 3 meters lower, the overall elevation gain calculated should be the same.
• I can't see that the elevation bug regarding over smoothed values are back.
Check out a comparison between v800 and 5x from my trail run Sunday.

5x "red", V800 "green". Both calibrated at start and both ended up with same diff between start and end probably due to pressure changes.

• When I was hiking the elevation was ok, it looks it happens at higher speeds.
• I did another mountain bike ride today. A 22km ride, the 910XT says 276m elevation gain, the 5X says 194m elevation gain! 42% different this time (44% different last ride). :(

If I look at the graphs in Connect the 5X graph doesn't look bad (smoothed) like the older versions of firmware. Both graphs look "similar" now. But the elevation gain calculation is VERY different!

I looks to me like the elevation issue is back. It was much closer with V10.51. Usually the 5X was only around 15% lower than the 910XT.

I will send my FIT files to the beta team.
• Update on battery life:100% on Sunday morning, 3 hours activities with GPS. (Sunday 2:30/50 km bike and today 30 minutes/6 km run), after 3 and half day 40% of battery life. Last day 15,7% (including 30 min run)
• i am on software version V10.0 and GPS 4.40. so if this don't fit here in post, please feel free to delete it.
i noticed in V10.0 that the recorded values are pretty darn good! but the elevation gain calculated by the watch, are way off.
for example: startet a hike at recorded elevation 1689m (in real 1690m) hiked up to the peak at recorded 2176m (in real 2182) so not much of. the watch and in connect is showing me an elevation gain of 469m. which even if it is straight up it should be 2176-1689= 487m. but opening the .fit file with a viewer (for example gpxsee) or download the gpx and look and add all the elevations, it give me an elevation gain of 494m. which is pretty correct.
for example on short trail runnings, the watch shows me an elevation gain of 183m. the fit file recorded 221m which is nearly exactly what i can say.
so i think, on GPS 4.40 the watch get's awesome results. but the software is calculating wrong. maybe this point is the same on 10.55?

NOT GPS issue, but this fw: Notifications, music controll not working on IOS 12 ("gold").

Edit: I think this is just Connect app issue...
• iOS 12 is not officially released yet. As soon as it happens (next eeek)Garmin will update Connect app and any problems presumably will be resolved.
