I've lately been encountering occasional problems where Fenix 5X is vastly over calculating the actual elevation gain. It is adding invalid elevation gain right at the beginning of hike or climb. For example, I just climbed Mt. Aix. Looking at the elevation graph, it shows me starting at 4,731 feet which is close. However, one minute later, it shows the elevation as 7,125 feet which is totally off. It continues using this incorrect elevation as I ascend and shows a max elevation of 10,904 when it should be about 7,776. Also shows elevation gain of 6,703 when it should be about 4,200 feet. Interestingly, the elevation loss is about right. Seems to be random problem but when it occurs, it has consistent pattern of adding invalid gain right at the start of activity.
I've had problems with this also, starting an activity after having seen the green ring, only to find that the start elevation has been recorded as 98m when it should be 24m, nmyeti's solution is so simple but really useful. Thanks nmyeti
