Fenix 5S + Elite Drivo via ANT+ USB -> Sending the HR to my Macbook /Sufferfest?

Hello there,

is it possible to transmit the HR from my Fenix 5S to Sufferfest or Zwift software running on my Macbook via ANT+?

This is my setup: I have a Elite Drivo Interactive trainer, which is controlled by ANT+ / FEC from my Macbook. I control my trainer either from Sufferfest or Zwift using an USB ANT+ Dongle. Now i want to add my HR to the parameters of the software as well (so far only cadence, power and speed) and i don't really want to buy a HR-Sensor since i am very happy with my Fenix 5s.
And another question: Is it possible to push activities from Garmin connect to my watch to keep her updated on my training status? Since my watch is not able to control my trainer i have to record everything with sufferfest/Zwift and then push it to garmin connect. However, my watch will not be aware of those activities, thus resulting in false information regarding training status an recovery time - or am i wrong?

Maybe there is someone here using Garmin connect as his main fitness app and is using a Drivo/Kickr oder Tacx Neo as well.

Greetings from Germany,
Johnny

For the first question it is possible to broadcast your HR. Just go to the Menu>Settings>Sensors & Accessories>Wrist Heart Rate>Broadcast and turn that on. You can then pair Zwift or Sufferfest to it like you would any other HR monitor.

As for the second question, no it is not possible to push a Zwift or Sufferfest activity to the watch. I use a Tacx Neo and assuming that your trainer supports the same ANT+ profiles (it probably does) one way you could do it is to pair the trainer with your watch as a power meter and as a speed and cadence sensor, but not as an ANT+ FE-C trainer so that it doesn't conflict with the app you're using to control it. You would then start an indoor cycling activity on your watch and let it record the activity. The distance won't match since it doens't know about virtual hills but the various training metrics should be correct. You would also want to disable Zwift and Sufferfest from pushing to Connect so you don't have a double activity.
  • For the second one, Physio TrueUp does that. Before it was implemented, that was indeed a real problem - the watch would just ignore the workouts recorded on other devices. But it works fine now. Please be aware, though, that not all training load-related metrics can be calculated from external devices. But that’s a different story.
