Version 10 issues

So after updating to version 10 yesterday I've had nothing but issues. The biggest one being severe battery drain. When I say severe, I mean the watch will discharge from 100% to dead in 1 hour 30 minutes. Also, the optical heartache monitor doesn't work anymore (no green flashing light). I've tried a factory reset, turning the Bluetooth off, connecting to garmin express instead of connect and just generally turning all unnecessary things off but none of it has helped. I've also tried rolling the firmware back using the instructions on another thread but I couldn't get it to revert back to version 9.2. Has anyone else has issues with the latest firmware?

My watch auto updated to 10 and the only issue I have found so far was that of the flashlight not staying at full brightness when activated by a hot key.

I assume you have double checked that the Wrist Heart Rate Sensor hasn’t been somehow disabled in Settings?

Edit to add: If you’ve tried rolling back the firmware and can’t, maybe you could consider updating to a beta and see if that rectifies the issue. As far as I’m aware rolling back from a beta release to a full release is doable if it throws up more problems.

I noticed the same thing with the flashlight and hotkeys. I figured out that when using the hotkeys, if you hold down the hotkeys the light stays on. If you want it to be "hands-free' it will remain on when activated from the controls menu.

Also, when I updated to SW 10.00 my wrist-based heart rate monitor was got switched to OFF. I simply turned it back on in the heart rate settings.
  • Yesterday when I started the triathlon activity the watch said it was updated to 10.00. My Fenix 5X was fully charged since it was an Ironman race. It only lasted about 12 hours and I lost the last 15 min. So it got worse with this update. Usually it can last up to 20 hours.

It's quite clearly a software issue. Garmin's answer is always to just send it in for replacement, which when you're out of the warranty period is an expensive endeavour. Especially when it's software related and as such, the replacement will more than likely suffer the same issues.
