Course

I wonder if it's possible to have an certain course always on on the map?
Now I have to navigate an course to see it but sometimes (When hiking) I just want it to let me see how I can walk in stead of telling me that I must walk like that.
on the edge series I can select an certain course and choose option "always on". I use it to combine some routes find on internet and make an extra loop or just an shortcut.
was hoping this could be done on the fenix series bit I can't seem to find it.

It exist a possibility: A little bit complicated, but sometimes very useful. Only for experienced users!

The idea behind: You create a separate map with the courses or tracks you always need.
All tracks or courses are transformed from GPX-Format to IMG-Format. IMG is the format used to store a Garmin-Map.
The tool (IMGfromGPX) to convert GPX (as many as you need) to IMG can be found here: http://www.javawa.nl/imgfromgpx_en.html
At the end you have to copy the generated IMG-File to you watch (Directory /garmin/) and switch on the new map.

    Try it!
  • There is no way to make a track visible, like there is on a handheld GPS. As a user that is looking to the Fenix as a replacement for a handheld on the trail, it is one of those things that I have not fully adjusted to myself. In addition to the above solution of making an IMG map, it is possible, but very much more complicated, to make a KMZ image map that has whatever you want on it. Neither are really good alternatives. I'm going to make an IMG map for an upcoming hiking trip but am still looking for hacks too.
  • Well the way I want to use it i download an course from wikiloc or something and send it to my gps.
to bad it's not possible so it cannot replace my handheld ever.
