Hi, I’d like to add summits location (triangle symbol), name and elevation in the F5x map, so that I can know all the summits by projecting with F5x whike hiking. Anybody would have a clue on how to do so ?
Hi Sis651, you’re right that the maps provided by opentopomap include summits. The problem is that they are displayed on F5X with a small icon (peak) without any name. So far, I managed to extract all summits from OSM to a .osm file with osmosis, but now I have to convert the .osm file to .img file. Even doing that, I’m quite sure the names will not appear on F5X. Anybody knows if a setting in F5X would do the job ?
Press holding the start button over the summit icon will display the details but probably summit names won't be displayed on the map as you said.
thanks Sis651. In the meantime, I contacted Martin from talkytoaster, and gave me the same tip. While navigating on the map, you can put the crosshair on the peak symbol, then you long press the start button to display the name thru a dedicated screen hiding the map (see screenshots). Not really convenient, but no other possibility so far. I'll report this issue to Garmin.
I think the easiest way to add a set of point is thru the use of IMGfromGPX http://www.javawa.nl/imgfromgpx_en.html. You just build a gpx file with your summit, and the tool will build a transparent map that should display....
