Navigation alerts

I could use some help in creating navigation alerts.
When planning a hike I use Google earth to draw a path, then send it to Basecamp, which sends the course to my Fenix5.

During hiking it is easy to follow the plotted course, except when there is a fork junction. It is not possible to determine whether I should take the left or the right path. Only after a while it will be clear whether I choose the right one.

When creating the course in Google Earth it is easy to see which fork to choose. So I would like to assign an alert.to some of the course points.
Would this at all be possible?

  • You an use platoroute website : import your google earth trace or create it directly on platoroute, then you can use the icon "DIR'NS" on the right of the map to show you navigations alerts. You can add an alert at a specific junction if you want to.
At the end, export the course in " .fit " , connect you watch on your computer and paste the file in the folder GARMIN/NEWFILES/
  • I agree you probably don't want to do it the way you've been doing it. I also agree that plotaroute.com is a good option - lets you use open street map, which is usually better for trails than google anyway, lets you review where the automatically placed turn markers are, delete them and add others manually, though they are not currently the right/left that you would want. (I have to declare an interest here: I wrote the library which plotaroute uses to generate the FIT file output, but I am not making any money from it, and it has been widely tested and works better than any of the other third-party sites I've checked).
  • Under the standard Garmin Connect, Training | Courses | edit a course, one has the option to "Add course point". I have tried this once with a course on a Garmin 5 and saved the course and sent it to my watch, but I still did not get the features the OP wants. Not sure what I am doing wrong.
