Hi all,

Just purchased a brand new 5X from an Ebay Watch store.

Realized this morning in talking with a buddy that it will be a USA only mapping.

So before I initiat a return immediately, I wanted to see if I can just reinstall Canadian software into this device.

Also, I don't have any Windows Machines or Apples, Only have Linux workstations and servers.

Can this be done with Linux software like QLandkarte on a workstation?

Regards
  • It is North America mapping. You can use your phone to sync for daily operations - any others are merely file based over USB. You do not need OSX or Window or a Windows emulator, just a web browser.
  • I’ve seen several reports that Garmin Express plays nice in WINE as well. Haven’t tried it myself yet though.

Thank you very much, did not realize that it was actually for all of North America!

WINE is usually a last ditch effort. I have had issues removing WINE from systems. I think that If I am going to need wine, will just setup a linux virtual machine and install WINE in that setup.

But if I can just go through the browser, even better!

Thanks again for both your answers, really appreciate it, and Looking forward to receiving the 5X next week.
