  • this beta leaves a very good impression. the fenix is snappy, gps + glanoss on the bike is very accurate and battery drain seem quite is ok. i still can't comment the elevation, but the floor counter seems to come much closer to reality than it was before (before it just was a random counter).

one thing regarding the secretly changed way of calculating the "total distance of a day" some firmwares ago:
i was very unhappy, that the distance of bike rides suddenly was ignored and only foot based activities counted into the total distance of a day - and i still am, as the fenix is not a runners only watch and the total distance is an important value.
today i saw, that since last thursday the total distance of a day includes the bike distance again - but only in GC online!!! this is nice, but on the fenix the distance is still foot based and therefore way lower than in GC online.
i think both values have to be identical, now matter how they are calculated. i hope to see the distance of bike rides calculated into the total distance again!
  • Some room for improvement for Swimming

  • There is also an improvement in performance - the switching of widgets seems to be faster than before. And the tree benchmark shows 2463, which is a huge improvement!

I have tested bike ride with GPS+Galileo and the results are more than satisfactory. The floor counter seems to be better, but I need more time to test it. So far, great release!

Good. It is even faster than 9.73: Tree benchmark score - 2551

I posted this in another thread, but am very pleased with the elevation tracking now. Here is a hike I took yesterday with the dog: https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2909055932 (the dog is the excuse for all of the start/stops). The elevation tracks nicely with the map whereas the older version plus the VA3 would be off in elevation by a large amount by the end of the hike.

The jaggies in location are a little disconcerting, but I was not using the GPS and this is certainly not a straight-line run. I was playing around with the non GPS modes to see how well they worked, and I guess it is OK for boating and biking, activities with straight line mostly, not so much for hiking on curvy rugged trails.

Besides this, the issue I have noticed is sleep tracking appears to be broken. I slept like a log for 6 hours the previous night, but because I took a leak around 2:30AM, my start time changed to that and it wound up tracking about 3:45 of sleep. Plus deep sleep seems to not be detected. That should be investigated before this release is made official IMHO. Not that sleep tracking is so important for me, it is just a quality thing IMHO.

If it is not too hot today for a hike during lunch, I will test in another location where my VA3 had been horribly wrong on elevation, and am assuming has the same software bug.

Scratch the complaint about sleep tracking. It behaves the same way as my old VA3 device. If I get up within 2 hours of going to bed, the start time is reset to the later time, and it is detecting deep sleep and REM the same way. It would be nice if it didn't reset the time, but it is not a new bug with this release as far as I can tell.
  • I did a benchmark test right before and after installing 10.51 with a negligible difference:
    9.73 - 2506
    10.51 - 2544
  • My old Garmin 910XT on the right hand
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2919310809
That was what I really swum.
Compared to the Fenix 5 with 10.52 software on the left hand
    https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/2919113224
    Same track, same time.
10.52 has improved is however still far from being good.
  • Come on Garmin, you can solve the problem with Fenix 5s!!!

Could be, but 9.72 had score 730. Maybe they fixed it already in 9.73. Thanks
