Creating routes for the 5X - issues

I would like to create a running route for my 5x that includes a number of waypoints. Routing should guide me to each waypoint, even if I make minor deviations. If I create a route using the route tool in BaseCamp, I have found that taking a wrong turn may trigger re-routing, sending me the shortest path to the final point of the route rather than sending me back on the route.

I then tried creating a route using waypoints, arranging the waypoints in the correct order and creating a route. That looked nice in BC and when viewed on the watch, but as soon as i select 'Do Course', the route is calculated and the watch adds an annoying amount of large blue dots on the route, obscuring it as shown on the attached picture.

How do I get rid of these and maintain a proper routing and Turn by Turn prompting on the 5X

I think that youhave 'use map' configured as course option. Then the watch calculating route instead of just pointing you to follow your line. Use 'follow course' instead.

I dont use basecamp, but do as you did first time and configure follow course.

Yes, changing to “Follow course” removed the dots. Will see if I still get TBT.

Wonder why the route created using route rather than waypoint tool did not generate these dots.

I think its the waypoints you saw as dot flags.
If you have a file with only gps points and course points as tbt, then you do not get any dots.
