Deep sleep and a Hammock

Hello everyone. :) I have possibly a unique question. I have been sleeping in a hammock now for about four years. I have been using my fenix 5 watch for about four Weeks! :) love it so far. Bought it mainly for the hiking and gps features. It’s interesting using the other benefits of the watch. The sleep and stress readings are not fully clear yet, but trying to figure it out. Regarding the sleep. The deep sleep. Since i have been looking at my data. I get on average about 15 - 20 minutes a night. According to Fenix5. Which seems odd to me. I sleep great since switching to hammock sleeping. I expected way more deep sleep stats. I tried a mattress one night just to compare. I slept way less (good sleep) than my normal hammock sleep. Yet i had the most deep sleep since? (45 minutes)
So, i’m Wondering a couple things. What is the average deep sleep the average person gets here? And also, Does the fact that i’m In a hammock and it swings as i reposition through the night, cause the watch to think i’m Not deeep sleeping? For my REM and light sleep it’s usually half n half.
Thoughts? :)
thanks.
Chris.
  • No thoughts...but if it helps an example of my sleep stats:

  • Since the change of the sleep metrics I see normally 3-4 minutes of deep sleep. The most I've gotten so far was 20 minutes a few nights ago. The REM - light is roughly 40-60 split otherwise.

    Thanks for the replies.
My wife has a Garmin watch as well, she did notice one thing the deep sleep stats align with no movement. It was my guess, the movement of the hammocks give 'false data' of sorts that we are not sleeping deep. I’m not too worried about the stats. Obviously a person can tell when thy had a great sleep. Lol ;) a little fun looking at the data though. :) for most part, my hammock sleep is far and above better than a regular type mattress sleep. I had eight whole minutes it’s of deep last night! Lol. What else does a person need? ;)

I'm averaging about 40 mins of deep sleep a night which seems reasonable. My night mostly consists of REM (avg 3h) and light sleep(avg 4.5). From what I've read, your body tries to get through deep sleep quickly as you become much harder to wake, and if woken would be disoriented for a few minutes. Deep sleep also shortens as you get older.
