Ive done a bit of searching and really havent found much help on the calorie problem on the 5. My calories for today are 3331, but dont think that is even close to accurate. I have seen that turning off steps will help or turning off activity tracker will also help. Im dont understand why Im turning off certain items from a fitness tracking device. Im hoping someone can shed some light on this or give me some assistance on getting this a bit more accurate.

All looks good except LTHR...That has not been calculated based upon auto detection

Something else to look at is integration with MyFitnessPal. If that's turned on, and MFP is tracking steps from your phone, then it may be giving you "double" credit for your steps.

I think my Garmin has been doing this for years, and I've always ignored it, because I like my calories burned from activities to show up in MFP.

    Just a thought.

There are many factors that go into determining calorie burn so it's hard to determine if the watch is indeed off based on the information given. What is your height, weight, and sex, and do both Garmin Connect and your watch have the correct information? How many steps did you take that day? Any activities? What was your heart rate like all day?

Yeah, I'm a small guy myself (5'7" 150lbs) but I'm always surprised at how many more calories bigger guys burn doing the same things I do. It's possible you're just a bigger guy and you did an activity that day.

Is the Fenix not like other Garmin wearables, where you should do a recorded walking activity of at least 20 mins
I have always done this with a new wearable device, basically to calibrate it to me as an individual.

I don't see why you would need to "calibrate" the watch for you as an individual, but I also don't understand what was said in this thread that lead you to your conclusion that the Fenix 5 was different. All programs (Garmin, MFP...) use formulas to calculate calorie burn, it's just that some of them might be a little more accurate since they have access to your biometric information.

This was something that was in the manual of the vívosmart HR, so from that watch to the Vivoactive 3 and now the Fenix, i just go for a 20min walk and record it as a walking activity, with a new device.

    https://www8.garmin.com/manuals/webh...BE5F6AB5D.html

Is this correct or not, i don't know, but i've never had any calorific burn data that didn't look about what i would expect.

I know that i can double check the calories burned from recording an activity on both the Fenix and the Edge 520. There is about a variation of 50 calories between the devices.
