Fenix 5X - 9.72 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.72 Change Log Notes:
• Improvements to pool swim distance accuracy.
• Improved route recalculations when navigating.
• Fixed a rare issue which could cause the watch to restart at the end of certain workouts.
• Fixed an issue where the abnormal heart rate alert would auto-dismiss after 30 seconds.
• Made several bug fixes and code improvements with CIQ SDK 3.0.

Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
• Did someone tested the 9.72 about battery drain with the complex WF.? I mean wf like gear min or my watch.

??????

Using Chrono style WF by Dirk N, with no change (drain ~30% daily, lag when going to menu still there)
• Is there a common place/way to inform all watchface/application/widget developers so they could make changes and prevent possible battery drain + other issues?

In the app store there is a link to "contact developer" to let a developer know about a problem with an app. For things like the new permission to get location, there were posts about in in the developer blog as well as the CIQ forum. For things like a common battery drain issue, that seems to be firmware related, so there might not be much a developer can do on their own, so using the beta email address (in the first post here) is the best way to let the firmware people know.

WOW unbelievable!! a huge battery drain 305/day!!! Even worse than 9,71 FW.
Have you tried with the WF "GearMin" or "MyWatch"? they are the most common among the lovers of multidata display (like me...).
Just to give you a reference of my experience with these two mentioned WF.

8,0 0,5-0,6%/hour
9,71 1-1,2%/hour

It seems you experience is similar to 9,71 ( a little bit worse), but honestly I do not know the WF you mentioned, is it full of data and frequent refresh of info?

Ok. Thanks. Very full of indicators and data, like my watch and so on.
It seems that 9,72 has no improvement about battery drain, but let's wait more extended test by other users.
I ll keep monitored the forum.
In this moment it has no meaning for me to update to 9.72.
• Just came back from a 2 hour bike ride. Lost 10% battery life, which is considerably higher than last beta. At least this is the case for me. Total bummer.

I'm using a third part watch face, but it is supposed to be one of those low power consumption ones. Very little information displayed and nothing animated. Fenix5Core is what I'm using.

Activity elevation is still screwed. Sending another email to the beta team.

Can anyone recommend s resource where I can upload my own activities and have more accrue elevation readings? Like using info from Google or some other place? My elevation readings are all over the place going back months. No idea what to complete them to. Plotting course on Google Earth maybe? Seems like a pain..

I am using Sporttracks.
• 6.83 beta works fine for altitude tracking but starts to be quite old...
• 6.83 is good regarding elevation calculation.
I've done the downgrade once with help of files and instructions from that beta package.
No problem, but you get a factory reset and loose all configuration and most of your personal data on your watch.
I will do the downgrade myself this week. I think the only things I'll miss is the new rest hr calculation and a little better phone notification handling.
• I can't believe that they can't fix a bug like this that make altimeter useless! I have sent them videos and much info about the problem! I also told them that 6.83b works fine, but nothing, since months no answer! I sold Fenix 5X for that reason and bought Fenix 5 Plus but also Fenix 5 Plus is affected; i also reported it... Now i bought a Suunto 9 , altimeter is spot on for every activity and even if it hasn't so much features, all features work almost flawlessly! I think i'll return Fenix 5 Plus at the and of Amazon return window!
• Wow. 6.83?? Damnnnn.. That's old! How does the battery life compare?

I guess if it wasn't that old, y'all would be on it..

This is very frustrating..

6.83 battery drain from 100 % to 97 % after 24 hour, only the watch without activities with Garmin WF....
