I purchased a used fenix 5. Good deal on it since the bezel and screen weren't in perfect condition. I had heard about the sensor issues (sensors being dropped) but decided to give the watch a try since I didn't spend a fortune on it. Well, it is true. Garmin HRM Tri strap disconnects as well as dropped Stages power data. I was also surprised to find that the elevation data was suspect as well. I did a few rides with my edge 1030 and fenix 5 and the elevation gain on the 5 was about half of the edge 1030 (the 1030 also seemed correct when compared to my ride partners data...920xt and edge 1000 on a known own route).
Well, I thought the fenix 5x might take care of these issues so I splurged on a new 5x only to find REALLY bad GPS plots....not such a big deal, but todays ride with the 5x gave me two top 5 Strava segments (and this is in London where there were over 25,000 people who are on that segment!). I can only think the GPS was jumping around so much as to give me false segment readings.
I also used my edge 1030 today and for giggles wore my 920xt on my other wrist and of course data was ok from those units. I really want to love the 5 series (and in no way am I splashing the cash for a 5 plus). So, thoroughly disappointed to say the least.
