Using Multisport

I have tried searching and reading the manual but I cant quite find what I am looking for so please excuse my ignorance.
So I am signing up for my first sprint triathlon and I am not sure how to get the f5x to connect to the next set of sensors.
I have the HRM-Tri so that will be paired up from the get go, when I transition to the bike will the watch start searching for my V3 and speed/cadence sensors? What if I use the edge 820 as remote screen?
Then, on the run, I have a foot pod so...

  • Just do a little test.
In my experience sensors can drop out and get connected as they get out of range and become available again.
    Test it.

As long as the sensors are already paired (only paired, no need to actually have them connected at that moment) with the watch they will automatically connect once you come into range and they are brought out of sleep mode. So when you start riding once the pedals move the V3 and speed/cadence will wake up and will automatically connect to your watch. Same thing with the footpod when you start the run, and the bike sensors will disconnect and go to sleep once you get out of range. Not sure about the remote display part since I haven't done that but it's easy enough to test.

The Fenix 5 is a great watch for triathlon, welcome to the sport!
  • Even though it is a print tri, it is going to kill me. Oh well, gotta start somewhere right.
So basically, as long as the sensors are paired, they will connect when they wake up and I don't have to do anything besides try not to drown, fall off the bike, or puke during the run.
  • The best advice I can give you for your first race is to focus on the race and not your data—that will come in time.

You only get to do your first race once, don't lose the experience because of some worry about sensors or similar. Have fun and let us know how it goes!
