Training status without cardio band

I have been training with fenix 5x for on month... But training status is not available and the watch asks to connect a garmin cardio band.

Is it possible to get it by using the wirst hr sensor or not?
  • It's really only lactate threshold detection that requires a chest strap. Training status shouldn't require it, and works just fine with wrist HR. (I am assuming you are not using the LTHR method of setting zones).

Training status does require VO2Max, which means running a couple of times, or using a bike with a power meter. Note that it does require "Running" - "Trail Running" will not generate VO2Max.

    Thank you for your reply.
I have not problem with vo2max as I got it very soon.
The training status id not present
Every time a message reminds me to use a cardio belt in order to get it.
Has someone got the t status on 5x just by using the wrist hr sensor?
If so, please tell me the procedure
    ?
  • Hi Italiano 75

I can confirm that you DO NOT need a chest-belt heart rate monitor for Training Status to work.

I wish I could be more helpful, but I've never heard of a notification like the one you describe "reminds me to use a cardio belt in order to get it"

All you should need is regular Training Load and VO2max updates and your Training Status should be calculated. It doesn't matter whether the HR data comes from a chest belt or the Elevate optical sensor embedded in your device.

  • I have the same issue, I was not running for 1 month and then I ran 3 times, only optical sensor used and it stil says "run outdors with heart rate twice to see your status". I did 3 times and still nothing.

this is exactly my issue. "run outdors with heart rate twice to see your status".
In this period I am doing training just by bicycle, so not running… could it be this the reason of missing training status.

In this case it would be very strange…. it would be like if the training status was an indicator just of running performance.
There is not a clear description in product manual and I am not the only one in confusion about that…. some friends of mine have similar questions about the training status… it is not clear how it works and what are the imput the fenix needs to calculate it.
  • When I was biking few days in row more than 100 km a day, I think it showed me some training status. And I ran 3 times in one week now, so there should be something. Before you did not need strap, optical HR was enough
