Turn by Turn Indication

I did a Course with Strava, a GPX file that I moved to New Files in the watch. Then I runned the Course with the watch but no TBT indications. Can you please explain how can I have it? Thanks.

I also had turn by turn navigation work. I created the route on Garmin Connect then sent the crates route to my Fenix 5+. When I started my run I selected the route from, Run/Options/Courses. Hope that helps

Yup, you need to use a site that generates FIT files with turns. Best to use Garmin Connect, or plotaroute.com (note: I wrote the code to generate FIT courses on there, so I'm biased, but it works,
?????I'm not making money from it, and if you have an issue I'll fix it), rather than sites generating GPX files that aren't so good for TBT on the Fenix watches.

The way I do it is
1. Plot out the route in strava because heatmap and routebuilder are better there than garmin.
2. Export GPX file from Strava
3. Import GPX file using Garmin Connect.
4. Send to the device from either the app or GC

And that way you get the turn by turn. It's a bit fiddly but on the basis that Strava heatmap is good for finding new routes and I don't do it that often, it works for me.

Hi mcbadger, I'm exporting a GPX file from Strava (using heatmaps to create a route). I import to plotaroute.com, but I dont have TBT directions.....will plotaroute create the TBT automatically ....so when I save the FIT course they are there?

Plotaroute do not auto create tbt when importing routes. Only when you draw the route from scratch in there with follow path/road mode. It's easy though to create/edit tbt manually in plotaroute and you have full control of where and how they should appear. In GC there is no control at all, when all tbt are auto generating during export to watch.
By the way Plotaroute calls tbt, Directions.

I'm a 5s sapphire owner and I have NEVER managed to get turn by turn indications by using Garmin Connect.
I think I tried almost every configuration:
- for the route creation in Garmin Connect: by using heat map or stick on road option, I even tried to create route with the 3 maps suppliers available in connect but without success;
- for syncing: by the iOS app, by wifi or by Garmin Express;
- on the watch I have tried all the options described above without success.

Each time I want to follow a course I have only the flag showing total distance before arrival...

May it be a 5S only issue?
Do others encounter the same problem as I do

As it may help, I'm French and I prepare my courses in France.
