Silicon case protector?

I am thinking about getting one of those cheap eBay silicon protector for MTB, anybody has one? Does it affect GPS reception? Thanks.
  • I bought one for my fenix 3hr.....which also fits my 5x....I pair it with a nice black Titanium bracelet bought online....as I find rubber can irritate my skin.....and steel affects the compass.
I haven't noticed any reduction in GPS signal quality while using the protector.
  • there are some cheap quick change strap that i thought would be nice for a color change, but i have doubt about how durable they are. definitely don't want to lose the watch because of the strap.
  • I’ve just purchased one of the silicon cases, expecting it to arrrive today so can’t report on how effective it is yet. I wont be leaving it on permanently, fitting it mainly when I’m trail running in a rocky area where I’ve been known in the past to scuff the watch (and my hands, knees, head) when I’ve taken a tumble.
  • I use one regularly for MTB, they offer a reasonably decent level of protection to bezel and do the job well. No noticeable effect to GPS reception.

Yes I'd be worried about the quality to......
You can by Titanium for £25 from China off Amazon as an alternitive.....good quality and much lighter than steel....I bought two, not quick release though.....but rubber would still be lightest of course and I think leather would perish in the wet etc....some material bands could be a good alternative though.
I think the Garmin quick release bands are to expensive.
  • I have been using these silicone protectors for a long time, I have them in different colors.
It does not affect the reception of satellites.
I combine them with different colored straps and so far no problem.
  • thanks guys, i will go ahead and give that a try
  • If anybody is interested the silicon case protector available on eBay / Amazon ...

Fenix 5X silicone case protector arrived. Its a thin soft case, easy to stretch and put it on. The fitment is decent. It won't move around much once its on. And its not so tight that its a pain in the butt to put on and take off. One thing though, I think this would be a dust magnet and hard to keep it clean, like many of the silicone case or strap.

I imagine it won't provide too much protection from impact, besides preventing scratches, cause its quite thin. I got it for MTB (just in case) and I plan to not wear the watch with the case protector most of the time (except when the activity calls for it). I don't trap moisture and dust in between the watch case and silicone case to make things worse.

The silicone case would offer a level of protection and I would recommend it if you are going to be rough with the watch and you don't mind the case on and off for cleaning.

  • The fitment is good.

Fully covered all buttons, but has openings for the sensors.
