Fenix 5X - 9.71 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.71 Change Log Notes: Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.
• Added support for Connect IQ SDK v3.0.
• Improved a case in v9.53 that could have caused battery drain for the Fenix 5X

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
• Been using the Steam face for last 24 hours and seeing about 12 percent per day. With a standard face I get around 8 percent per day. Hourly Its around .3 with standard and .5 with steam. That's 13.8 days standard and 8.3 days with Steam.
• After updatig to 9.71, my Fenix 5x is now no longer recognized by Garmin Express 6.5.0 or the recently released 6.6.0

When I connect the charging cable I can see that the battery goes under charging but the device is no longer recognized by both Windows and GE even by trying to scan for a new device.
My Fenix is configured as USB mass device.

Before 9.71 update everything was fine.

I'm on a Mac, but similar thing happened to me. Try turning off the watch and then plugging it into your computer. It should automatically power on and hopefully connect; took about 30 seconds to show up on my desktop.

For me that battery drain is not present.
Yesterday, 07:35 PM - carged to 100% on a wall outlet, soft-reset followed by a normal power off and power on. Sync over WLAN.
Today, 04:17 AM - Battery down to 98% Only using standard watchface.
Went to a 45km training run (4:08:31h, wrist based HR, stryd and tempe connected, GPS only, 1 sec recording)
Came back at 09:03 AM with 72% left. That's 26% down in about 4 hours with GPS. That's an improvement from previously 10%/hour down to 7%/hour.

Unfortunately my experience is different.
For instance today 1 h 20 m of cycling with gps only. 10% of battery drain. With previous 8.0 was about 5 or 6%.

?????
• This isn't the best beta, severe in activity battery drain (~40% / hr running).

Also, in activity, massive lag when switching between screens.

in this beta in strengt mode the watch recognised that your set is done when you look at your watch nice feature
• Is there anyone else experiencing issues with OSM maps? or...is someone using osm maps on the latest beta? and if yes: could you point me to the download link? i wan to try if it works on my 5x
thanks in advance
EDIT: kind of resolved: obviously there is a problem with OSM maps from bbbike and the (at least) the fenix. just generated a map from scratch (same area) and this time the map is working

Tried your suggestion but did not help. Also tried to install the Fenix 5x on another computer but again the device is not recognized. It seem that with the last beta update the device is no longer detected as USB device.

At least the USB battery charging and BlueTooth Sync work fine so I can use the watch waiting for a fix.

Question: Is possible to update the firmware (beta and stable release) via BT / Android ?
• I haven't tested much yet but with GPS + GALILEO the satellite lock was basically instant. Less than 1 second I think.
And the vertical speed was 0 right away.
The altitude calibration by GPS was only jumping 1 meter up/down instead of 10 like it was before.

Very excited to look at tracking and altitude results in the forest and among high buildings even if we don't have all the satellites up or in commission yet.
I'm in Oslo, Norway, perhaps it will work better further south and worse further north for the time being?
