Fenix 5X: https://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

  • Added support for Connect IQ SDK v3.0.
  • Improved a case in v9.53 that could have caused battery drain for the Fenix 5X

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
  • real problem with altimeter, no usefull info from it. Comparing during week my real climbing on stairs with 5X - about 50% difference. Really if i'm getting 20 - 25 floors on 5x i see just 11-13 floors. Better don't have any climbing info at all than to have such stupid
  • i tried the stair climbing app with 9.71 anche the stairs got stuck at 109 floors instead of 170 (10 sets of 17 floors)
    altimeter was ok.

After several days of use I can confirm that 9.71 does not fix the battery drain at all.
I am desperate... Please, someone could indicate the procedure for hard reset?

I hate to cancel all the training data and all the activities settings and so on but in this way the fenix is not useful for me.
2 hours of gps in two days and I have 50%of battery... Terrible!!! .
??????In my opinion 9.20 & 9.71 get the fenix 5x at the level of worst competitor in terms of battery drain.

  • From my experience battery drain was a real pain while using GearMin or MyWatch watch faces.
Looks like those two watch faces really destroy your battery lifetime.

Furthermore the watch is now more responsive than before...

Had issues since 8.something beta. Think it got better with 9.71, but it was only solved for me by switching to a simpler watch face.

    P.S.
I really love both GearMin and My Watch but with the battery drain both are rendered useless to me.

Your analysis is correct. I love GearMin and My Watch too, and I realized that those WF are the worst for battery drain. About the drain with no gps, the solution to use simple WF seems to work, especially if you use original WF installed in the fenix (average 0,2%/hour). Hovewer during GPS activity the battery drain with 9,71 is quite bigger than before.
with 8.0 the gps battery drain was about 5%/hour. with 9.71 is about 10%.. I have not so many data about the 9.20 as I updated soon to 9,71 when I realized how it was terrible for battery drain.
Actually I used gps with 9.71 only with gearmin, mywatch and some other not preinstalled WF… I do not if this affect the battery drain… I haveto test.

    Hi all,

wanna share my impressions of yesterdays run:

Long run with 43km, 3100 vertical meters, 9h activity time incl. breaks, 7,5h movement time --> 50% battery drain. CIQ field for Stryd footpod activated. GPS only, no GLONASS/Galileo, Map screen in foreground only for a few minutes. FW 9.71

No altimeter issues, battery drain seems totally ok for me.

All below is listed in CEST:
Saturday, 8 PM: (Over-)Charged to 100% with wall charger. Watch was at 100% but I left it about 2 more hours connected.
Sunday, 4 AM: Battery down to 99%
Sunday, 04:47 AM Started a 45km training run. Still 99%
Sunday, 10AM: Back from the run (4:11 hours, wrist based HR, tempe and stryd connetced, GPS only, 1 sec recording, no 3rd party watch face, no map) with 72% (27% loss in 4:15 hours = less than 7%/hour)
    Today (Monday) 10:05 AM: 66%
One of the best FW versions so far!

Good for you. One important question: wich watch face do you use exactly?

Hallo. same question I did to moe67er... wich watch face did you use when you had that performance?
My idea is the the watch faces influence the battery drain not only in smartwatch mode (that is already demostrated) but also when they are in background, during gps activity.
