Fenix 5X - 9.53 Beta Release

Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.53 Change Log Notes:
• Added GPS + GALILEO support (Activity Settings > GPS). (Requires GPS version 2.20)
• Added abnormal heart rate alerts. Enable these in Heart Rate widget > Heart Rate options > Abnormal HR alert. An abnormal heart rate will be detected if your heart rate exceeds the entered threshold for an extended period of time while sedentary.
• Fixed a bug causing Cadence values to be 'stuck' when not pedaling instead of returning to 0.
• Fixed a crash seen when viewing SwimRun activities.
• Fixed a crash sometimes encountered when selecting apps.
• Fixed a bug causing some activities performed on multiple devices to be double-counted when viewing Training Load on Physio TrueUp devices.
• Fixed a bug that could prevent the Fenix 5X from progressing past the initial screen when booting after a software update.
Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.
• I went back to just GPS only. Tracks are showing pretty bad with GPS+Galileo on rides here in North Florida. Distance I get from speed sensor so don't know if that would be different but is way off for tracks - showing me off the trail by quite a bit. Not seen them that bad, ever. Will try again in the future.

Could you please advice, how to degrade GPS back to 4.4?

The problem with altimeter is still present...
After swimming it is not possible to calibrate the altimeter normally... Te response is very, very slow and is useless for for another activity, for example for mountain biking...
Every time I have to reset my Fenix 5x watch. Very disappointing :(((

I have the same problem, does reseting your watch help? I tried and it didn't do anything. My problem is that the altimeter vastly under reports the elevation change.

When I soft reset (turn off and on) my watch, then temporary is ok until I go to swim.
• Is Galileo useful in the USA? I have been reading that it was created for Europe so I am curious if turning it on in the USA will be of any use, same really would go for Glonass?
• It was developed for Europe in case of the other providers deciding to not play nice and shut down their systems but its worldwide. I can see several above me using a phone app. Of course, I can't tell if they are sending signals or the 5x is receiving signals from them. Personally I'd like to see a Galileo only option - same as GPS only, once it does all get figured out.

At present though, I find my tracks are way off - even a drunken sailor couldn't plot a line that badly. The track seems to drift off course. GPS only is not perfect but works a lot better for me at present. Don't know if its the software needs improving to account for the new system, the satellites aren't fully operational above me or the 5X is being the 5X or all three.

I just switched back to GPS only Alfredo, I didn't change firmware.
• Guys,

Taking advantage of this thread I ask: Aside from antenna and related, Is there any performance research backing up the use of GPS, GLONASS, Galileu, or any combination?
I've been using GPS only on my F5x for an year and have no "major" complains other than the same ones since my GPS II plus. Good days, bad days, always regular under trees coverage, etc, etc.

Thank you,
• Ok, I must be an idiot. How do you update the firmware(9.71) on the 5X? I copied the files over to my watch via the instructions on the download page. I disconnected my watch and was it suppose to do something as soon as I unplugged it? I did a 'Power off' from the Light button screen and turned it back on and the About screen still says 9.20, gps 4.40, display 2.80 etc.. I went back into my folders and the files I copied were gone. I did the whole procedure and copied the files again and same result. What am I not doing correctly? Thanks
