Hello Fenix 5X users,

We have new beta software ready for your upcoming adventures!

Fenix 5X: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11665

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

9.53 Change Log Notes:
• Added GPS + GALILEO support (Activity Settings > GPS). (Requires GPS version 2.20)
• Added abnormal heart rate alerts. Enable these in Heart Rate widget > Heart Rate options > Abnormal HR alert. An abnormal heart rate will be detected if your heart rate exceeds the entered threshold for an extended period of time while sedentary.
• Fixed a bug causing Cadence values to be 'stuck' when not pedaling instead of returning to 0.
• Fixed a crash seen when viewing SwimRun activities.
• Fixed a crash sometimes encountered when selecting apps.
• Fixed a bug causing some activities performed on multiple devices to be double-counted when viewing Training Load on Physio TrueUp devices.
• Fixed a bug that could prevent the Fenix 5X from progressing past the initial screen when booting after a software update.
Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

I don't get it. My 5X says it has GPS4.40, as far as I know 4.40 should be a more updated version than 2.20, right?
• Was wondering same re: GPS. Why back to 2.20 from 4.4?
• Read the thread. There is an issue with upgrading the GPS firmware but it will work - should end up as 2.20

See the posts above you need to copy the file in again and it'll prompt the GPS update on restart. Works after that!
• I've never done a Garmin firmware beta. Is this any more risky than the main stream firmware?

Has anyone seen battery usage improvements over 9.20?

Will I need to re-setup all my watch settings after applying the beta FW?

Yes it is risky installing Beta. If you are not willing to except new bugs or issues (and willing to provide the information to the beta team), don't go beta. As 9.53 has only been out for a less than 3 hrs, don't think anyone can give much feed back on battery drain. Installing the beta (manual process) does not (or should not) impact settings HOWEVER if you need to revert to the release version, as the notes say, you end up resetting everything to default - another reason to think carefully about running beta.
• Oh dear. Just did a GPS soak for 24 mins during which there was an accrual of 0.05 miles. Then went on a frequent route run and the GPS track was marginally worse than the usual GPS only track.

The mile splits were in the same spots which are slightly long.

I know it's a sample of one but not promising so far!

I think this might have something to do with the constellation needing more satellites so I expect it will get better!

Kudos to Garmin for adding it though as it's really appreciated!!!
• I installed 9.53, but still had GPS 4.40, and just copied the 2.20 to the watch again and all is good now.
• If anyone expreiences GPS version 4.4(!) issue!!!

That's just because main firmware is installed but GPS firmware is waiting to be installed. Just go to Settings > System > Software Update and install the GPS update from there. Than after the reboot it'll be 2.2!

By the way, I opened an activity to let the watch soak under some new satellites. GPS + Galileo takes more time to fix. However, there were only two or three Galileo satellites in the sky. GPS + Glonass is always fast for me for the first fix.
• Hopefully as all the satellites come online and the 5X isn't too hard of hearing, like it sometimes seems to be with GPS, it should make a big difference to both complex tracking (cities, canyons, etc) and accuracy. If the spiel around what Galileo can do is true, of course!

I wonder if the version changing is just to align all the different builds too.
