F5 or F5 plus if buying now

If you where buying now what would you go for..

useing my discounts i can get an 5 plus for £540 or a f5 for £400 online.

one thing puttig me off the plus is the lower battery life of 6hrs in gps mode....

i had a 5 earlier in the year but returned it for a refund due to mainly the auto pause not working that well hiking seemed to not pickup that is started moving again..edge1000 also is the same so had to switch off auto pause...

same whist mountaing biking but only under tree cover where my edge 1000 was fine strangly under those circumstances..

So 5 or 5plus....mmm
  • The F5 Plus is up to 18 hours recording GPS without music (a little down on the up to 20 hours of the 5). Real world with the F5 Plus? I recorded a 7 hour 25 minute hike/rock climbing activity in North Wales yesterday on my 5 Plus and the battery went from 99% to 48% in that time. Settings were: GPS+Galileo, every second recording, wrist HR on (took the watch off whilst climbing though - left recording in top pouch of backpack) and connected to iPhone in my backpack throughout (received some text notifications when in phone signal range). I was entirely happy with that performance when compared to what I’m used to with my F5

this is not my opinion but a warning against the purchase

No it's an opinion as it comes with no other information
  • I'm completely satisfied with my F5, and have been for the last 15 months. To each their own and with plenty of viable choices on the market these it's nice to have the flexibility to choose the device that works for you.

Same. A few niggles but to be honest if i was to repeat the purchase today I'd do so without a problem. Its been a fantastic device.
  • Thanks crispin i thought the 5 was up to 24hrs not 20...

Yeah for the 5 not the 5+ apparently

This is from the 5 manual -
    [h=1]Battery Information[/h]
The actual battery life depends on the features enabled on your device, such as activity tracking, wrist-based heart rate, smartphone notifications, GPS, internal sensors, and connected ANT?+[SUP]®[/SUP] sensors.

First column above is Fenix 5 then the 5S :)
  • Thanks crispin i thought the 5 was up to 24hrs not 20...

I stand corrected on the listed 24 hours for the Fenix 5; I was getting mixed up with the 20 hours listed for the Fenix 3. Either way, the real world battery consumption of the F5 Plus so far, seems very similar to the F5.
  • Thanks...so as youve used both what do you prefer and any real world benifits to the 5plus

wonder if garmin have listed more realistic runtimes for the plus
