I agree kaz911.... definitely missing out the plus series. Spent a small fortune on my F5X and although the new features on the plus series are interesting there's nothing there that would make me buy one. The Galileo addition is great but I'm sure it will be fairly underwhelming in reality. The 5X is capable of it but I'm sure they won't turn it on for various reasons i.e. it won't make much difference.
I'm also a bit peeved they won't fix all of the bugs on the F5 series. Although my F5X works well it's a bit annoying there have been minor issues left unresolved. I guess now these are unlikely to ever be fixed.
The removal of the discount is also a no go. I might have coughed for a base 5 plus model at £510 but at £600 there's no chance. I'd rather get a new phone!
Oh, and by the way....the Forerunner 910XT is capable of calibrating altitude from saved waypoints via the saved latitude/longitude.. For example, I had one saved at my home with the elevation set on it and it calibrated automatically when GPS locked. I'd rather they just added this feature again. I requested it many times both on the F3 and F5X but to no avail!
Just a heads up to the UK folks. Don't get excited about Galileo, it's not coming to the UK and you can thank politics for that. Not too excited about the other updates but definitely bummed because this means in typical Garmin fashion the none plus series will no longer receive proper support.
Using Galileo is not going to change with politics. So end users in the UK can use it as much as they want - just as you can use the Russian based Glonass now.
It is just the management of the Galileo program that will. So for end users no difference. They may be able to "soup" out (make it less precise) the UK with less precision but that would then hamper the EU's users possibility of using Galileo around the UK.
More important for me: Are we going to get the functionalities that are plain SW changes, like the Climb Pro Widget and the Popularity Ranking of Routes?
Looks like a nice iteration of the 5x - personally I'll will wait for the 6 or later, the 5x currently works well for me.
I don't think we'll just be 'cut' off now the new one is out.
Where Garmin have the common code base for these newer watches (5,Tatix,935, etc) it should be easy enough to apply bug fixes and enhancements across all the watches. If a particular watch doesn't support a feature then the code should have the logic to not implement it on that watch. Easy enough to do.
They may hold back some features as sugar to encourage people to consider 'upgrading' but that's the natural cycle of consumer goods. The thing that should encourage us to upgrade is faster processors, newer hardware features, better battery tech, newer GPS chips, etc - not because one has a bug that the other doesn't for no reason other than they just didn't update the code stream. If they follow that logic then I don't think they are doing wrong by us.
