Turn by turn instructions - 50 course point max. exceeded

So... if one loads a course that has more than 50 turn cues a message is displayed saying "50 course point max. exceeded. Final X cues not shown..." . So all the cues after the 50th will be removed and only remaining distance to course end is shown from that point on.

Why is there such a low limit for turn by turn cues for courses? Seems pretty outdated to me....
  • This is an old thread, but for those who get here from Google, his may help:

There is a good explanation for this problem here: www.aukadia.net/.../lwg_22.htm

For short (in case that page disappears in the near future), there are 2 types of points:
    - Routepoints: uneditable points from the tool/GPS. There is also a limit but it is high: 2400 to 5000 points.
    - User Waypoints: points added by a user. The limit is much lower here (50, 150...). This is what is causing the problem.

The page suggest 3 ways to work around this:
Method 1 - plan using a mixture of Waypoints and Routepoints.
Method 2 - don't upload the Waypoints to the GPS.
Method 3 - manually edit the GPX file using a text editor.

For our use case (importing to a Garmin watch), I find the 2nd solution works:
when importing a GFX track with Garmin Explore (explore.garmin.com/Map), when asked "Import Lines As Tracks" or "Import Lines As Routes", choose "Import As Tracks".
The tracks can then be sync'ed successufully to the watch.

    You could also try
gimporter (apps.garmin.com/.../de11adc4-fdbb-40b5-86ac-7f93b47ea5bb to import the GFX track. Then check "Reduce Points to 50 points".
