Fenix 5 trackback - unsteady map screen

While biking I want to be guided by imported komoot tracks.
The accuracy of the position on the map screen is very good - nearly no deviation.
But the direction on the map screen is very unsteady while I am in motion.
First I thought that the compass is not calibrated. But when I stand still the Direction in map screen is correct.
The view while beeing in motion is very nervous and flickers . Sometimes it runs full circles which means incorrect direction by 180 Degrees and millieconds later correct again!

What is wrong? Is the direction in motion measured by compass or by gps-point to point?
Any Ideas?

  • Depends on your settings. In settings>sensors and accessories>mode, on uses compass all the time, off uses gps all the time, auto uses compass when you are stationary and gps velocity when you're moving. It's usually quite stable if you're cycling. There's also a map setting for track up or north up. If your GPs lock isn't great than track up can wobble a bit too, though I can't say I've noticed that being a problem with cycling.
  • Dear mcbadger, thx for your explanation. So, I will try the compass-on-setting next time and check what happens on the map screen while cycling.
