Courses, maps, basecamp and connect...Two questions...

Hey all,

Well I finally upgraded my Fenix 3 to the 5X because of the maps. I have to say, im impressed love this watch. But... There are some things I don't really like (or understand?) around navigating/courses etc.

Im using basecamp now to create routes for my Fenix 5X, my two questions for now:

1. Why or how can I transfer the maps (.img) to my mac's HDD so they a. work way faster and b. I don't need to connect my watch when I wasn't to edit my courses?
2. Why do I see my courses on my map but don't I see them in Garmin Connect?

Thank you!
  • You can copy maps to your computer via USB cable. Connect your watch to computer and go inside /GARMIN/ folder in it and all maps are there. But there'll be some license files etc. that has the same name with the map files. You should copy these too, otherwise maps won't work next time you copy them to watch.

Basecamp probably stores the courses in the watch but not in the Garmin Connect cloud. So you won't see those courses on Connect. You can use Connect to draw the courses too, then you'll have them on Connect too.
  • Hey Sis651, thank you. I indeed get the .img files off my watch but dont get them into basecamp as basecamp (mac) only accepts the Garmin gmap extension...
