Fenix 5: http://www8.garmin.com/support/downl...s.jsp?id=11663

Note: Please allow for the updates to propagate across all servers. There is no need to post that the link does not work. It will after a bit of patience.

8.99 Change Log Notes:
  • Added support for communication with a Garmin Xero A1i Bow Sight. The Bow Sight is capable of sending Laser Locate waypoints to the watch. These are accessible from the XERO widget (Settings > Widgets > Add Widgets > XERO) and can be further used to navigate to.
  • Added support for communication with a Garmin inReach Mini. (Settings > Widgets > Add Widgets > inReach) The widget acts as a remote and allows one to send preset texts, customized quick texts and trigger a SOS message.
  • Added support for selecting alternate locations within the Sunrise and Sunset widget. (Widget > Menu > Location)
  • Added support for Garmin Vector 3 power meter software updates.
  • Fixed a possible crash that could occur when downloading stored heart rate data from a Garmin HRM-Tri or HRM-Swim.
  • Improved the accuracy of the pace/speed target gauge during workouts.
Please send all bug reports to "][email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line.

Please note, the beta updates released on these forums are not suitable for APAC region devices.

Posted in main forum but seeing an issue with VO2 max not updating from watch to GCM or GC. Took it from 47 to 49 and watch shows the change but neither VO2 or Training Status on GC or GCM show the new value. Third party iPad app ConnectStats shows the new value is in the activity

  • Something mysteriously wrong happened today during the last minutes of my run. Coming up at 9.5 KM of 10km the watch suddenly showed the Garmin Triangle and nothing else. This lasted maybe for two minutes before it was responsive again and gave me the possibility to stop the activity. Looking at the map the activity seems to have stopped recording at the exact point where the Garmin triangle appeared. FirstBeat data is wrong/missing, and looking at the Garmin dashboard I now have a huge gap where my activity was rather than it showing me the stats of my activity.

Is there a way to fix this/have the watch reprocess the FIT file? It kinda pains me that the Firstbeat data is missing :(

The watch crashed and rebooted. There will be a file in the "Garmin" directory (on the watch) called "err_log.txt". You should send it with a bug report to "[email protected], and indicate which model of the fenix 5 series you have in the subject line" - as stated on page one of this thread.

I experienced a crash with the released FW version 8.0 on a Fenix 5X while navigating a course ("Use Map" in effect). Think it couldn't handle re-routing when I decided to extend the distance a tiny bit... So, 21 km got a Training Effect of 0 (Zero) - was 3.2 on watch before crash - a Recovery Advice of 0 hours and a Training Load of 0.

Those 'Zero' numbers are written in the actual Activity .fit file, so it wouldn't change a thing if you somehow could "reprocess the FIT file".

I'm quite disturbed by your crash as well, because it is so late in their development phase...

  • Ahh.. Thats really ominous.. Log files (together with FIT file and event logs) sent to fenix5.beta.

Without having peeked at the actual firmware to correlate the error log it seems to me like the device ran out of memory. I guess this means that I'll have to run my 10K races in less than 1.05 ;)

If anyone wants this is the log:
