Here is a cheap and simple DIY method for a Garmin Fenix 5 or Fenix 3 - Here is a Quick Release Bike mount which works perfectly. I will post photos of mine soon. If you have questions send me a note or post here and I will be glad to help. All you need is your favorite mount and $17. It takes about 15 minutes total once you get the parts. In my opinion this is way better than the kit linked above in this thread, which makes the profile of the watch much bigger and it is not the function I was looking for myself. This is simple, just remove the QR watch band and mount your device with a spring loaded clip (phone charger base).
Fenix 3 forums have been asking for this mount for several years now and there is still no simple / proper mount connection I've seen made for the fenix 3 or 5... It seems really odd they don't make this part, which garmin easily could make for like $5, and it seems like they'd sell a ton for $25-35 all day long. Here are 2 forums with a basic outline on the method.
and so I followed these instructions and some ideas similar I found on google... I bought a bar fly 4 mini and a similar phone charger mount. Here is the one I used for $10:
However, I didn't have the garmin part you glued on to twist into the mount. So, I found this part below for $7, and the 3m adhesive seems to be good enough. I was planning to put a couple drops of superglue in also, but the part arrived as I was headed to the trails, so I filed down the back of the charger base just barely to help it grip, stuck this part to the bottom of the charger base (link below) and you just twist it in and works great! Thanks to these 2012-2014 forums for the outline on how to get this done. Total cost is primarily the mount. Bar Fly was $40, others are cheaper but this also mounts a go pro, etc. The charger is $10, plus this random $7 part... pretty great mount which makes using the watch on the bike an excellent speedometer, tracker, navigation device -- as good as any other lightweight gps you could buy separately which would be a shame since you already have your watch with quick release bands... I also recommend the mountain bike pro application. Cheers.
(To be clear, my intention is not to charge the device as someone mentioned in one of the old posts for the fenix 3; I just wanted a solid way to mount the watch face... for my purposes I did remove the charger pins from the base that holds the watch face, which requires pulling out a few screws, removing the metal part, and putting the screws back into the charger base, which now holds the watch face on the top of the mount. Still, charging also seems like it would be simple if you needed that capacity with this same method if you figure out the power source and carry it along)
Is there a charging cable that works with a 5X? Most of those only say Fenix 3 on them.. There was a comment on Amazon that they dont fit a Fenix 5. Thoughts?
