Same problem with my Fenix 5S Plus.
I had opened a support case with Garmin but it didn't go anywhere.

I have the Fenix 5X and have been trying to use it as a GPS for golfing. The accuracy of this device prevents me from using it as it is out as much as 50 yards at times. Is there a calibration or something that needs to be done in order to use this watch for golfing?
Yes, same thing constantly, the shot tracking is terrible, it constantly misses out on shots. It also moves me to the next hole or even a neighbouring holes even when I'm not close to the green, quite annoying, since it takes so much time to manually move back and record the shots
I had a 5X and now have a 5X plus - I can confirm that I had major issues with distance and accuracy until I set the units on the watch to Miles from kilometres.
So I am answering my own question in hopes this helps someone else. When you buy one of these watches and activate it in Canada, all your settings default to Metric. Using the golf app, your distances then are in Meters, not Yards which all golf courses in Canada use. You have to go and set the Units to Miles from Kilometers. Can't believe I am the only one to notice that...
We should be able to set the unit in miles only within the Golf app.
The way it is today I have to set miles while golfing and back to metrics after the game. It sucks.
