I've read on Russian news today, that their Glonass system is struggling (at least for Europe/World coverage). Two of their satellites are down etc. Enough coverage for Russia, but not enough for the rest of the world. Maybe the update is to avoid issues when we have GPS/Glonass and the watch is struggling with the Glonass part... Just speculating, without any scientific background :). Would be nice if Garmin provide more details.
Did anyone actually notice the GPS version number changed after the update? As far as i can see it didn't plus there is not even a new beta released so a "silent" update seems pretty strange to me. Maybe its just a glitch in Garmin Express.
Update done, training done, but no difference (f 5S, 1s recording, GPS only)
Not sure why would you expect a change in what appears a perfectly good track?

This is a GPS chipset firmware version, not the watch-specific software controlling GPS.
Tried yesterday more time to fix the GPS signal, but except this all is ok
It took me over 10 minutes yesterday to get a firm GPS fix - about the time it takes to download the GPS almanac data. I am speculating here, but the firmware upgrade may have wiped/invalidated the existing GPS almanac data. Hopefully this was for the first use only, and now that the watch has that data, subsequent GPS use will be faster.
