I use the watch for paddling and hiking. I only use the heart rate monitor when Kayaking and other activities such as walking and gym. Even though I get high training load, but my status never changed since I bought the watch. Recently, and since the software upgrade to 8.54 my VO2 max dropped. I am just not sure why I am not getting a status at all! see the attached picture.
Do I need to e using "training" option when excercising to get the status to change? As I mentioned I use the heart rate monitor while kayaking and did once for short run (not a runner :o) and got a LTH and VO2 max. But not status.
Training status compares changes in your VO2Max with changes in your training load, and makes an educated guess as to what is going on.
Obviously changes in your VO2Max requires VO2Max itself to be measured regularly. And VO2Max requires input (HR) to be compared with output - currently this is only available for running outside (speed and gradient), or for cycling with a power meter. So the watch will only generate a Training Status if you are a regular runner or cyclist.
However, if you can generate a valid VO2Max occasionally (eg. going for a run once every few months), then the watch can generate Training Load and Training Effect from this, even for activities like kayaking. It is only Training Status that will be missing.
Ha! Pleasing our gadgets. I'd never thought of it that way. :D
I think it takes around 6 minutes of running to generate enough data. You will see it come up with a "Performance Condition" alert when it has sufficient data.
something similar happenned to me: i've not been running for a bit (only using cardio) and it shows "no status" eventhough I ran in the cardio actrivities (even with GPS!)
