[h=2]Fenix 5 heart rate accuracy.[/h] Today, 09:49 AM
Bought a Fenix 5 last week. Overall very pleased with it.
Heartrate during cycling seems to correspond with the heart rate on my Edge 1000 and heart strap. During the day though everytime I get up and start moving around, the heart rate goes up to 70, 80, 90 or even over 100. When I check my heart rate by feeling my pulse I’m sure it’s still around 60. (Watching the second hand on my wall clock). First couple of days I thought something was wrong with my heart. Now I see it’s just the Fenix that’s way off. Anybody else has seen this and found a solution? I tightened the strap and still same inaccuracy. Firmware is 8.0. ciq.forums.garmin.com/.../1334724.jpg
  • The most common causes of OHR problems are poor positioning and looseness. The watch band should be snug, and positioned on the fleshy part of the wrist well away from wrist bone (this is much higher than most people normally wear a watch) - this provides a good seal against external light entering the optical sensor. You mention tightening the strap, but from the photo, it appears your watch may be too close to the wrist.

    Also, OHR will typically be slower to respond to changes (both increases and decreases) in heart rate than a chest strap.
  • Search through the forum for OHR, WHR, wrist heart rate, optical heart rate. You are not alone.

    Ok thanks.
    So, if I want to keep wearing it loose during normal activity, I have to accept the sudden fluctuation in heart rate.
    As long as I know this, I can live with that. Just happy that my heart is ok!????
  • If you wear it loose, light can potentially enter the sensor as the watch "bounces" with each arm swing, leading to inaccurate HR readings. Personally, I find I need to wear the band one notch tighter to cope with the more vigorous arm movement of running than I do for walking or 24/7 monitoring.
