HRV Stress 3 minute test

I can't seem to find much information on the HRV Stress test. Does anyone know much about interpreting the results? I just started trying this test and my readings for the three days I tested are all very high, something like 75,100, 84. How does one lower/improve them? I don't know why my numbers would be so high. Feedback, ideas, information all welcome. I tried to search the forums but my search returned no results.
  • It takes some time for your baseline to be established. That said, I did have a somewhat odd (always high) results based on my Wahoo tickr x when connected via ANT+. I believe that Wahoo is doing something odd in the way it transmits HRV on ANT+ and a few members here (or at DC Rainmaker) confirmed. When I switched the HRM-Run my readings started to normalize. I still don't know how much value to place on them, but at least they appear to be variable now. Bottom line, the reading is only as good as the HRM you are using. Additionally it takes a bit of time for a baseline to be established.

Don't know which hr strap you are using but a high value would indicate high stress or low heart rate variability. Like nmyeti said, it takes time to establish a baseline and sometimes individual measurements can be high, so I would not worry about it too much. Getting a reliable baseline will take a longer time, even 30 days...Once you have this, it's important to watch weekly trends, not necessarily daily values as these can vary from day to day.

Make sure to always test at the same time of the day; preferably in the morning right after waking up. Doing this inconsistently can have a big impact on your numbers and actually make the values unusable.

  • I use the Wahoo Tickr. I have a Garmin HR strap, but not sure where it is. I got annoyed with doing this first thing in the morning after the first week and gave up. Something about just waking up and then having to stand still for 3 minutes was very uncomfortable.
