I find if I choose the "WALK" activity I don't get any cadence data but if I choose "RUN" then I do. So I just use the RUN activity for both walking and running. I am not sure if this is the way it is supposed to work because the 5X does search and connect to the footpod in the WALK mode.
It's not a matter of what's recorded, it's a matter what and how things are shown in Garmin Connect, For walking, they don't show cadence, and back when it showed steps, you saw those for walking but not running For outdoor walking I have a couple of apps that will show you both steps and cadence when walking.(only on the watch, not in GC)
