Fenix5s - Use Chest Strap rather then Wrist hrm

Hi everybody.
i would like to wear my HRM chest strap all day, because i would like to compare HR acquisition (and calories calculation) with the HRM wrist sensor.

I suppose that after a couple of minutes the watch will switch to wrist HR anyway, because i am not under any activity workout (i tried it yesterday).

How can i obtain continuously chest strap acquisition? i must disable wrist sensor?

Thank you
  • You must continually have an active activity.
  • There used to be a connect IQ app for the Fenix 3 that allowed you to track heart rate via the chest strap all day but displayed a "normal" watch face so it was like you were using the watch normally.

I don't know if it exists for the F5. It made sense to have it for the F3 since it didn't have the optical HR sensor.

I'm not sure what you're expecting to find though? The heart rate tracking will definitely be more accurate, but I doubt that will make a significant difference to your calorie calculations, especially when you consider that using heart rate to calculate calorie burn isn't perfect in the first place.

I find my estimated calories burned during the day fairly consistent with expectations based on years of data from using myFitnessPal and Trendweight.com. I no longer track my calories eaten, but I'm fairly confident of the calorie burn output Garmin gives me each day being +/-10% accurate.
