Per-activity units

Hello. Is it possible to configure different units for different activities? I don't wish to change the overall units on the device - I'm happy with miles, however I would like to use KM sometimes without changing system settings. Just in case I'm misusing terminology, I want Run(Miles) and Run(KM) activities, so that I can use Run(Miles) most of the time, but use Run(KM) for specific 5/10km training or races. I can't seem to find the option - only the overall user/system settings. Thanks.
  • This isn't possible at the moment. So you'd have to change the settings for your entire device each time you wanted to run metric distances. You'd also need to remember to change your auto-lap distances if you use that as it converts 1 mile laps to 1.61 km laps.

Alternatively you can add some datafields which show you distance and pace in metric values. The developer hSoftware has released a number of datafields that you can use so you can see metric pace/distance while running.

You could create a copy of the Run activity that includes these datafields, and has the auto-lap distance set to 0.62 miles to get an approx KM splits and notification.

Note that when you view your activities in Garmin Connect they'd still be in US/Imperial units, but the lap splits should still show as approx KM splits.
  • Thank you Carl. I have just downloaded the hSoftware datafields. These look like they are exactly what I'm after. I'll give them a try this week.

     Sometimes Garmin does stupid things...

You have a boating profile with expensive bluechart and hiking profile with Topo charts.

No way for having different units in different profiles (but in the manual you can read you can do it at the "profiles" section).

So you have to hike in nautical miles or sail in terrestrial miles, or change it everytime you go on board or offboard.

Was it to difficult to develop? Is it to late to release with a firmware update?

The "opposite unit" explained here above fixes the issue between imperial and metrics, but nautical is uncovered.

  • Not to mention Golf app...

All over the word golf is in yards despite the country unit..
