Resort Skiing with "Total Vertical" App Needed

I have the Fenix 5s with the default Resort Skiing App. but it doesn't record / display Total Vertical for the day / activity.
Total vertical is really the only metric I want to calculate.

I can't seem to find an application with Total Vertical meters skied or total vertical feet skied.

This would be the total vertical descent for each ski run combined.

Please help - the old Garmin watches have it but not my new Fenix 5.

Thanks

Using the built in skiing app, I get vertical meters, altitude, top speed, length, avg speed per run, and also total for the session. I use the auto run function but not 3d distance (since I read somewhere here, that it messes up things). Auto run seems to work nice enough. Did some 20 000 vertical meters during the weekend with one of my daughters.

Are you asking for something else perhaps?

An observation in regards to altitude, is that although I had the barometer set to "altitude" the numbers differed quite a bit compared to actual values when checking the watch readings and comparing to given altitude.

If you calibrate the barometric altimeter at one altitude and you then move 1000 meter up or down, you will see that the altimeter doesn't quite show you the correct altitude.

This is because the altimeter assumes an air density based on standard conditions (look up "ISA standard atmosphere" for details) and uses this air density to calculate how much the altitude has changed when the ambient pressure has changed. However, the surrounding air is never quite on standard conditions. If the air is warmer than assumed in the standard conditions, the density will be lower than assumed.

Suunto watches has a functionality where they combine the GPS altitude and the barometric altitude into one number which does supposedly not have the typical altitude errors from GPS measurement or barometric measurement. Garmin watches don't (anymore).

Hey thanks for the advice. I'm still not sure how to get total vertical for the day.

I'm wearing the Fenix 5s. It has the run by run data and shows Time, Distance, Calories, and Avg Speed but not "Elevation" in the slot available. The "Elevation Gain" section is blank.

When I drill into the data it has a section for "Elevation Loss" which shows Elevation Loss, Min Elevation, and Max Elevation. NOt sure how they are calculating "Elevation Loss" because it isnt the total of all the runs I did. When I look at the elevation chart it shows all the ski runs and details Min elevation and Max elevation for the day.

All I really want to see is Total Vertical for the day and maybe Max speed. I guess I need the app to add up the elevation loss for all the ski runs (the app calls it a lap). Not sure how to do this.

Is there a way to customize the defaut app or do you know of a better Ski App that I can download that will calculate the total vertical for the day skiing?

    Thanks for your help.
  • I use the Garmin app and it shows vertical for EACH run and then a total for the entire activity. If I open the ski activity in Garmin connect on my PC and then scroll down the page to the "SPLITS" (STATS / SPLITS / TIME IN ZONE) tab it shows all of the information and the totals.

    Thanks for this:

Are you using a Fenix 5? Cause the App I have doesn't seem to have that info. LMK
  • I have a fenix 5X but it should be the same. I just used the "standard" Garmin ski activity. I attached a picture from my activity (I know it is is a very small ski hill ).
  • I use "Skiing App Professional" which logs total vertical as Elevation Loss since it only records descents/total runs, works for me.

Ah ha. Yes. Thank you. I see the Total Loss on the Splits Data. Thank you for helping me.
